The present state of disability and employment often makes me feel as if we're each in our own boat, paddling into an unending current. It's more important than ever for PWD and those they work with, to work TOGETHER. How else are we going to effect lasting policy change that leads to benefits eligible employment for PWD and make those employment stats rise?
With that some ideas:
If you're a hiring manager, hire a candidate with a disability!
If you know a job seeker with a disability that's a good fit for your company, take 30 sec. and forward it to the hiring manager.
Host a job seeker with a disability for an informational interview.
Even better, mentor them! A 45 minute (bi-weekly or monthly) meeting with someone who cares does wonders to help a PWD slogging through a job search! Finally, if you're a
professional in the field, don't be afraid to collaborate, you never know what can happen!
